Tool reference
MCP.Scientio.Com exposes its capabilities to AI agents as Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools. The pages below describe every tool the server publishes, grouped by the area of the system it belongs to, so that you can understand what your agent is able to do on your behalf and what each parameter means.
Before you start
Every tool call must be authenticated with your API key, sent in the X-Api-Key
request header. If you do not have a key yet you can
register for a free 30 day trial key, or
view an existing key. Calls made without a valid key fail with an
authorization error.
Point your MCP client at the server root:

Most tools operate on a KBase (knowledge base) — a private, indexed
collection of your content together with an automatically maintained knowledge graph. KBases
are identified by an indexId, which you can obtain with the
ListKBases tool.
Try the tools
You do not need an MCP client to see what these tools do. The tool evaluation page runs any of the non-destructive tools against the live server with your API key and shows you the JSON that comes back. Every non-destructive tool below also carries its own Try it link.
Tool groups
Knowledge bases
Create, delete and list the knowledge bases owned by your account, read and change their metadata, and discover public ones.
8 toolsContent
Add text or web pages to a knowledge base, list what it holds, retrieve it and delete it, and obtain a URL to upload a large file to.
7 toolsSearch
Knowledge-graph enhanced semantic search that returns the passages most relevant to a query.
1 toolChat
Hold a multi-turn conversation with a knowledge base, with history kept on the server.
1 toolContext
Retrieve LLM-friendly summaries of a knowledge base's subject matter and description.
2 toolsKnowledge graph
Read and edit the nodes, edges, attributes and location data of a knowledge base's graph.
24 toolsTime
Read and write the temporal existence of the things a knowledge base knows about, and read dates out of ordinary prose.
5 toolsLineage
Look up the shared taxonomy of concepts ("lineages") used to type nodes and edges.
6 toolsLocation
Turn a place name into coordinates, using the GeoNames gazetteer of the world's places.
1 toolSystem
Administrative tools: read and claim the public name that identifies your account on the public web site.
2 toolsTry a tool
Run any non-destructive tool against the live server with your API key and inspect the JSON result.
30 toolsReading the tool pages
Each tool is listed with its exact MCP name, a description of what it does, a table of its parameters and a note on what it returns. The badges shown against a tool are the behaviour hints the server advertises to MCP clients: tools marked read‑only never change your data, and tools marked destructive create, change or remove data and should be used with care. A tool with no badge carries no hint — read its description to see whether it writes anything.
What a tool costs
Every tool is priced per call, and each tool carries its current prices as two further badges. The API key badge is the fixed amount one call costs when it is made with your API key; these are fractions of a cent and are added to your monthly bill. The Agent badge is what an agent that pays for the call itself, with the Machine Payments Protocol and no API key, is charged at the time of the call. A tool badged No agent access cannot be paid for per call at all: it works on the data of an account, so it must be called with an API key.
Prices change infrequently and the badges are filled in from the live server, so they always
show the rate you will actually be charged. The prices of all tools are also published as JSON
at /api/pricing/tools.
A live, always up-to-date list of the tool names and descriptions the running server advertises is shown on the home page.
